Town of Cazenovia Municipal Office at the Gothic Cottage - 7 Albany Street in the Village of Cazenovia.  All forms and applications needed for building permits are located at the bottom of this page or at the Town Office during regular working hours, Mon. - Thurs. 9-4, Fri. 8-3.

Requirements:

New York State Building Code and Zoning Regulations of the Town of Cazenovia require that you obtain a building permit for construction that physically changes or adds structures to your property such as:

• New Building - dwelling, accessory builds, garages, and sheds
• Additions - building, swimming pools, hot tubs, decks 
• Alterations Beyond Cosmetic Changes - conversion of space (basement to habitable space or garage to living space) 
• Moving or Demolishing a Building
• Repairs Involving Structural Members - including staircases, doors, windows, trusses, etc. 
• Heating Equipment - wood or pellet stoves, gas lines, HVAC units 
• Changing the Use or Occupancy of a Structure - change a single family residence to a dual family, restaurant of shop 
• Signs
• New Electric and Plumbing - any extension or addition of these systems that require a new installation of an entire system 
• Also, if you are planning a project within the Cazenovia Lake Watershed Zone involving ANY soil disturbance- construction, gardening, clearing of vegetation, driveway - you are required to seek Site Plan or Land Disturbance approval from the Town of Cazenovia Planning Board. See below forms for additional information or call 655-5896 to verify whether your proposed use or property requires a separate land use permit.

Building without a permit may result in enforcement action; including removing of any construction which requires a permit, possible penalties and increased fees.
