Description

The Assessor is the Town Board appointed official who values real property within the boundaries of the town.  The value is converted into an assessment to calculate real property tax bills.  

Responsibilities:

The Assessor maintains the town's assessment roll which contains each property assessment.  The Assessor calculates property values, processes tax exemptions, provides real property sales information, and performs data collection.  

All tax exemption forms must be filed with the Assessor by March 1st each year.  Some common exemption forms and instructions are available below.

Tax Benefits for 65+ Property Owner?

For property owners over 65: Cazenovia area property owners over 65 may be eligible for certain property tax exemptions, if you have any questions call Brian Fitts, Town/Village Assessor 315-655-9213 ex 2. The most common is the Enhanced STAR.   Link with detailed information regarding the exemption: https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star/star-exemption-program.htm#apply  For lower income senior citizens this exemption may be an option in addition to the Enhanced STAR: https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/exemption/seniorexempt.htm
